- Dorothy Richardson and her husband Alan Odle had been in Switzerland since the beginning of November 1923, and were spending a couple of weeks with H.D. in Montreux before returning home. This postcard to Bryher is signed by all three of them.
- Alan Odle regularly drew pictures of elephants in his letters to H.D. and Bryher. Richardson was ‘the Puffin elephant’ and Odle was ‘the Sergeant elephant’.
